Snowy Nuttiness

Wind is gusting outside and a dust of snow is blowing around my neighborhood. Headed up the mountain to snowboard soon but drop any weather, road, or sledding related blips here.

No school all over the South Sound! We'll probably walk down to UPS with a saucer later and slide down into the lacrosse fields.

no school but there is still work

Woodinville appointment rescheduled but downtown Seattle appointment is still on. He says it didn't even snow there yet.

It snowed plenty in the Lincoln district last night.

It's snowing like crazy here near UPS and has been for a while, but it seems to be a little too warm to stick.

Schools close because some administrator was afraid someone might slip on a quarter inch of slush. No wonder kids turn out to be such panty wastes.

About an inch out at my place and 31.5 degrees near Proctor this morning. Tacoma School District is running 2 hours late this morning. Looks like the freeways are pretty smooth sailing.

The snow falling was sticking to 30th and Dock Street but didn't present any problems if you keep it slow. Schuster was pretty much just wet.

My wife is nervous about driving to hanan party... can we get a road report ?

by jenyum on 12/18/2008 @ 2:06pm
schools will be busing elementary kids home early, but not in a particularly organized fashion (No time frame on that) Not Good! I can pick mine up on foot, fortunately.

@NIN: Drove to lunch up the Delin hill and had no problems. That and Jefferson were just wet and sandy.

North Slope is a mess. Can't speak for downtown though.

by jenyum on 12/18/2008 @ 2:21pm
we went to a movie in lakewood and it was snowing heavily there and in Central Tacoma, but not in between. Roads are very slick here in the 6th Ave area.

Don't wimp out RR - I just drove to Fircrest and back!

Saw someone on Facebook mentioned that Pearl is an ice rink.

Looks terrible out there. Worst timing for the school busses. Suiting up and going out, wish me luck!

by KevinFreitas on 12/18/2008 @ 3:52pm
Good luck! (hope you're back by now)

The roads downtown are completely clear.

KOMO reports big traffic messes on I-5 South of Lakewood. Don't go that way tonight unless you have to.

by Dave_L on 12/19/2008 @ 12:32am
Downtown Tacoma is mostly fine, but north was terrible, and like jenyum was saying, I-5 was a mess - it took someone I know four hours to inch back to Tacoma from Olympia tonight. Driving around town seemed O.K. late tonight, even on the major hill streets. Residential areas are all across the board. We'll see how things freeze up overnight.

Anyone been out yet this morning. Temps are well below freezing. Cheers to the Tacoma road crews though 'cause most of our minor and major arteries have flowed pretty smoothly during all this weather.

From the TacomaArt listserv:

Due to the icy conditions, the Museum of Glass will be closed today, Friday, December 19.

We plan to reopen at 10 am tomorrow morning. Please check www.museumofglass.org for updates.

This morning driving in Tacoma was a piece of cake. River Road to Puyallup, which as a blizzard and icy last night, still wasn't that great. The revised on-ramp from Meridian to 410 was a sheet of ice with multiple fender-benders. Barely missed a sideways car myself. Looks sunny enough to break out the chalk right now.

Snow Off: Episode 1? ;)
