Olympus owner Stephen Morrison on Laura Hanan

From the Business Examiner:

"A legal suit of this nature drains the resources of a company," [Morrison] said. "The cost to the operation is that it takes cash that would otherwise be injected back into the project and thus, ultimately, it hurts our tenants. Our mission is to provide affordable housing, and we will continue doing so. She is asserting the Olympus has somehow injured her financially. We don't know how she concluded that, nor do we know the sum, although there was a fairly creative calculation in the demand letter. One assumes that, if we pay her something, everything will go away. In fact, I don’t believe Laura has thought this through. We are not going away. Our tenants are who they are, they won’t change and the building is properly zoned for the specific use. There will still be noise on Pacific and there will still be drugs being done somewhere nearby; thus we assume she wants money to bail her out of a poor business decision."

Last night my partner Marty and I were having dinner and drinks at Paddy Coynes. An older man, an acquaintance (and Olympus resident) who knows about problems I have had with the management, sat down next to us at the bar to have a cup of coffee. We found out that he had not eaten that day and bought him dinner.

He told us that he hates living at the Olympus, that the management does little to help the residents and he is "afraid" of one of the residents living there.

I think that it is very interesting that the reporter that wrote the Business Examiner piece excerpted here did not interview anyone except Stephen Morrison.

I refused an interview because I did not think that there was anything to contribute.

The facts are in the legal papers and years of my documentation which include countless photographs I have taken of of drug dealers/users that have done business in and around the Olympus Hotel that have been arrested and jailed, and a thick stack of pages of police call records made over the past six years regarding this troubled property.

Here's another part of the article:

Asking for monetary damages and injunctive relief, Rowland Building owner Laura Hanan and tenant Kris Blondin allege that defendant M & M Properties Inc., owner of adjacent, residential Olympus Hotel and Apartments, have allowed the building and premises to be used in “a dangerous, destructive, unhygienic, noisy, and illegal manner,” according to court documents.

Complaints range from garbage being thrown on the Rowland roof by Olympus residents; to tenants’ refuse attracting seagulls, which “crap all over” Hanan’s roof, according to one e-mail; to tolerance of drug dealing and other criminal activity. The plaintiffs also allege M&M has failed to maintain the building in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Consequences claimed by the pair of business owners include: “substantial business losses, out-of-pocket expenses, and loss of use and enjoyment.”

I think the trial is going to take place with a substantial power point presentation.

I just hope the computer they use has sufficient memory capacity for all of the pictures that will be presented.

Just for the record, as co-plantiff in this suit, the Business Examiner, to my knowledge, NEVER tried to contact me for a comment. This makes it very easy to make Laura look like the bad guy. Shoddy journalism in my book.

hey it's not that the BizEx has any beef against you kids, they're just making a strategic alliance with the deeper pockets. That makes them slow and predictable. Use that against them!

In related news, owners of two businesses adjacent to the Olympus have filed a lawsuit against M&M Properties and its owner, Stephen Morrison. Laura Hanan, owner of the Rowland Building, and her tenant Kris Blondin claim Morrison has allowed dangerous, illegal and unhygienic activity to occur in the Olympus.
