How can nuisance problems downtown be solved?

Should the City of Tacoma implement clearer nuisance guidelines with real consequences for downtown? Does urging World Vision's youth programs to leave downtown solve the problem?

How can increased activity due to an increasingly successful downtown mesh with the needs and safety of local businesses and residents?

Some notable quotes from the emails on this topic:

"There are at least 50 underage kids loitering, skateboarding, yelling, wrestling, and throwing frisbees in the parking lot and on the sidewalk where Brick City is located. I just watched two kids pull signs off of private property to use for skateboard ramps."

"...I witnessed the fire department, an ambulance, the police department, and the BIA administering stitches to the kid who was injured."
- Laura Hanan, Brick and Mortar Gallery

"...there is no other explanation for the deaf
ear all the words full of facts have fallen on!"
- Rose Calvin, Learning Sprout Toys

"What city employee is going to respond to us? Draw straws, play rock, paper, scissors or something."
- Kris Blondin, Vin Grotto

"This stuff is going to kill my business and also every business in the vicinity. How would you feel if you came to Downtown Tacoma for Dinner a few drinks, go and enjoy a show in the Theatre and you have to deal with this crap. It has to stop."
Patrick Coyne, Paddy Coyne's Irish Pub

"What's it going to take before something is done? Is there a certain quota that must be met for loss of life or property or arrests or something?"
- Marty Fehl, Pacific Ave. resident

"It seems to me that most of the conflict is with the
lack of responsibility, monitoring of activity, and proper follow through and repercussions for misconduct. What needs to happen seems to be, defining a clear understanding of accountability. Why are these acts going unnoticed, and unattended to, and unpunished?"

To be clear, these aren't actual shots from downtown. Not sure how conducive this is to the discussion but, I suppose illustrations can help. Too bad there aren't any actual shots from the other night.

Unfortunately, we have no photos of last Saturday.

I suppose we could get our resident cartoonist to reconstruct the scene there based on eyewitness testimony. However, I would guess that the above photos found in google under "mosh pit" may be more forgiving than the typical RR illustration.

- actually I did take pictures on Saturday night - I didn't want to have to post these but, with trepidation, and fueled by the fear and fury of what Jesus would do......

PS: I have it on good word that "Snooples" has a record as long as her tail but please don't let on that I informed - my life could be at stake if it comes out that I "snitched!"

On a side note. Here's a good clip of a lively Mosh Pit (in another country) which is apparently called the "Braveheart."
