Wine & Roses: Metro Parks ironic event title

Tacoma Metro Parks has scheduled a repeat of its Wine & Roses wine tasting event for June 27-29. Is anyone aware that the book "The Days of Wine & Roses" was a scathing look at alcoholism?
If this wasn't bad enough, the sponser of the event is the Emerald Queen Casino. The City of Tacoma won't allow the establishment of casinos and the council has frequently alluded to the problems that addictive gambling causes our citizenry. So why does our city allow this business to plaster it's name at the top of our local event? Can't we find a family friendly sponser like Frank Russell, or DaVita? If it's all about money I propose that we scale back the event and make sure it's family friendly. I don't want my kids to get the idea that the drinking and gambling industries serve some loftly civic purpose. Metro Parks, you've caused a "cross-addictive blunder". |
