4th of July routine

We've enjoyed the Freedom Fair for the last couple of years. We normally walk down through Puget Gardens Park from Proctor. Once on the waterfront we wander until we're full from chili dogs and chocolate covered frozen bananas or we get too hot in the sun. The air show is always a treat, too. From there we'll head back up the hill then catch the fireworks from the bend near where Stevens meets N. 38th.

So what's your usual 4th of July routine in Tacoma?

Trying to keep the dogs from totally freaking out. Since the fireworks in Tacoma tend to last for at least a week, usually two, it's a huge amount of stress for the dogs, Frinklin, and me.

I love the big fireworks shows, and will down a few blocks toward the water - we saw five shows at once last year! It's the random rockets that go off at 2 A.M. that get old really fast.

I feel like crotchety old lady - maybe it's my upbringing in California where fireworks are illegal everywhere because of the fire danger...?

Don't worry, ensie. This year might be better for the pups. The fines are being enforced double-time for any fireworks set off in the Tacoma city limits.

I will check out the Freedom Fair again this year. We enjoyed it from the waterside last year, but this year I'm going by land. Can't wait to walk up 30th. I better start stretching now.

We always have people over later in the day and then head down 36th hill to a friend's place with a great view of the fireworks. I love walking up the hill faster than the cars are driving after the show is over. I refuse to drive anywhere in the neighborhood after about noon because traffic and parking are crazy.
