I highly doubt that the existence of these signs in some places is going to lodge into drivers' minds as "oh, well now I don't have to pay attention anywhere else, because this is the only kind of child who might run out." I see these signs as something that are not likely to do any harm. Whether they actually do good or not, I couldn't rightly say. More »

Izen@ Well, the intent of the signs is certainly noble and may even prevent a child from being injured. OTOH, drivers may presume that if they see a child running along the street and there ISN'T an accompanying "Autistic Child Area" sign, that the child must not be autistic. More »

I suspect that, similar to the Deaf Child Area signs you see in a few places (there's one just off of 19th near MLK), it's one of those things that doesn't go up automatically, but is available for parents that request it. I believe the intent is just a sort of heightened awareness. More »

When driving on North Orchard I have seen a traffic control sign that reads "Autistic Child Area". Although there are many autistic children in Tacoma I haven't seen any similar signs. More »

This doesn't surprise me - there are way too many over-served and obnoxious people out from the bars looking for fights and looking to trash personal property just because they are shit-faced and someone looked at them wrong. I'm tired of people throwing up on the storefronts, pissing all over everything, smashing bottles and the biggest issue screaming 'til 3 or 4 in the morning. More »

The What Shoppe at 740 Broadway (Across from Sanford and Son) became victim of a nighttime brawl that resulted in someone being thrown through the plate glass windows of the shop. Product loss could have been worse, but they will have to replace the windows. More »

I saw shotguns and a man threatening to jump off the cliff near the gazebo of that park with the totem pole. there was a bus in the middle of it and the whole intersection was blocked off with police cars. More »
