The issue I raised in my posting was as follows: Is it appropriate, at a time when the city infrastructure is crumbling, to expand the benefits for city employees? In my opinion the answer is no. More »

This has traditionally been one of the benefits to working in the public sector, which is traditionally not the highest-paying work a highly-skilled person could do. There is a strong public interest in making health benefits available for council members. More »

Should city employees have benefits packages which are excessive when compared to the average benefits earned by private sector workers in the city? This has traditionally been one of the benefits to working in the public sector, which is traditionally not the highest-paying work a highly-skilled person could do. More »

The council members knew there were no health benefits when they ran for office, so it's not like anything was taken away from them. If what we are trying to achieve at city hall is an equitable distribution of benefits, as you seem to suggest, that could also be achieved by taking the health benefits away from the rest of the city employees. More »

Um. They are getting health benefits based on the amount of time they work, at the same level as other city employees who work the same number of hours. More »

The city council just voted themselves a great health benefit package thanks to a recommendation by a committee of their friends. Wow, who would have seen that result coming? More »
