My father left the armed forces after WW2 because he hated war (seeing many of his comrades killed) and made us (kids) promise not to join the armed forces unless of course we were drafted.He volunteered (some months after the Pearl Harbor attack) just because he recognized that he would be drafted anyways.He did become an officer and a combat pilot and completed all of his missions/sorties.I dislike undeclared wars and think that the armed forces should go back and have the war department revived rather than the department of defense.
