If we disbanded the office of Economic Development and fired the lot of them we'd probably end up with more business in the city. Someone smart enough to con the city out of the salaries they are getting is smart enough to set up their own business and contribute to the tax base. More »

The city could have employed a little more "due diligence" before getting involved in this project and discovered the problems with both the building and with the developers. That raises this issue: Are the people earning over $100K per year in the office of Economic Development actually doing their jobs? More »

As I understand it, the HUD contract on @ 170 units is a steady source of income. And if you're not putting any money into the maintenance and upkeep of the building then, sure, it's easy for the Winthrop to pencil out. More »

from my inbox: R.R., I love history (family history research is how I spend my 'rare' downtime). Tacoma Outreach Center is a good option, but leaving the building there on the Edison school grounds would impact the planned expansion of the school. More »
