by Jesse on 11/5/2011 @ 8:25am | I've got my money on my mind.(Had to be said) |
by KevinFreitas on 11/5/2011 @ 9:50am | I use BECU for my banking and mortgage and recommend them to anyone thinking of making the switch.
Also, I mentioned this at dinner with friends last night, I challenge credit unions to encourage a flood of people to move their mortgages by temporarily (tho permanently would be nice) dropping up-front fees for doing so to a truly affordable level. Something like $100-$500 versus $1000-$5000 or more. People moving their mortgages would cripple big banks but normal people see such fees as a barrier to doing so. I know it was for me when recently refinancing. |
by Keeper on 11/6/2011 @ 6:44am | While I agree with the sentiment Kevin, moving mortgages won't really do much to the big banks. My mortgage was through Kitsap Credit Union. However, as with almost all CU's, "standard" (i.e. 15, 30 year fixed) mortgages, it was sold off some time ago. My mortgage is now with Bank of America. Credit Unions don't typically hold on to longer term mortgages. |
by KevinFreitas on 11/6/2011 @ 9:34am | I know what you mean. My first mortgage 6 years ago was sold off a couple times. But BECU at least doesn't do that and since refinancing with them in 2008 it's stayed with them. So, I suppose, doing a little research into those practices before making the switch is probably wise. |
by Dave_L on 11/6/2011 @ 10:17am | I am in the process of moving my mortgage from BOA to Harbostone. With a modest-sized remaining mortgage, the fees are a considerable, yet unavoidable hit. costs Despite their growth spurt, I've generally been satisfied with Harborstone and their customer service  for many, many years. They did however just begin sharing management of their new mortages with local CUHMS www.cuhmspartner.com/ |

by NineInchNachos on 11/7/2011 @ 1:06pm | tapco only offers 20 year mortgages. no refinancing fees though! and you need to pay your own insurance and taxes. the search continues... |
by Jesse on 11/7/2011 @ 6:54pm | Navy Federal guarantees their rates to be the lowest. If not, they'll match anyone. You have to have a close relative with an account there though. |
by Nick on 11/8/2011 @ 12:28pm | Don't know why it takes a national movement to do this. Credit unions already have better interest rates and lower fees for deposit accounts. Coupled with the fact that there's less of a conflict of interests when the account holders (not shareholders) steer the wheel and I don't see how banks have any checking customers... |
by low bar on 11/8/2011 @ 2:51pm | it seems it takes a national movement for everything. abolition, civil rights, gay rights, any kind of rights. party rights et al. |
by NineInchNachos on 11/8/2011 @ 2:54pm | they don't make it easy |
by ixia on 11/8/2011 @ 5:00pm | We shopped around for local last time we refinanced. Key Bank promised to be local. We signed with them in some back office at the S 19th branch. That office struck me as very temporary. Just a couple of weeks after the paperwork went through, Key Bank sold to BoA. Now we are stuck there. Key Bank lied to my face. |
by Dave_L on 11/8/2011 @ 6:18pm | FWIW, My Harborstone / CUHMS Servicing Disclosure Statement does have the check-box checked that says, "The loan for which you have applied will be serviced at this financial institution and we do not intend to sell, transfer, or assign the servicing of the loan." (I'm always skeptical and I do see some wiggle-room there.) |
by low bar on 11/8/2011 @ 7:56pm | so we've moved all our money to teachers credit unions. how can we then move the entire southern and midwestern voting population to some other country also stuck in 1500 AD? that would be the next step to taking control of congress. |
by Keeper on 11/8/2011 @ 8:23pm | If we're splitting up the country like that, I'll go with the southern & midwestern group. Seems to be the only ones with any shred of moral fortitude. But that has little to do with the topic at hand.
|
by low bar on 11/8/2011 @ 11:35pm | it impossible for these undereducated groups to know right from wrong. which the same reason it took the governmental changes of the civil rights movement the longest to become a respected and followed law in the midwest and south. that a historical fact. i see a historically questionable moral fortitude. i must therefore conclude that our morally weakest links lie thus below the mason-dixon line. it's not rocket science to know the country is only free to those who look a certain way, live a certain way and earn a certain income. morality is cheap, i suggest these groups learn to really use it some day in the year 2525, if man is still alive, if woman can survive |
by NineInchNachos on 11/9/2011 @ 9:03am | hooray! at least the people of the south can still tell a person from a fertilized egg. |
by low bar on 11/9/2011 @ 9:25am | damn, my grammar is country problem is they find an egg, and then deliver it directly to the yessum masser, instead of share it amongst themselves. |
by low bar on 11/9/2011 @ 9:40am | yessum masser got a little peeved www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/08/joe-wa... |

When: Thursday, November 17th, 2011, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Where: William Phillip Hall, UW Tacoma Details: Contact Cynthia Howson at chowson@uw.edu |
by low bar on 11/10/2011 @ 9:40am | I'd like to see a PhD in African and Oriental studies running this discussion. Especially since the occupy movement ISN'T FUCKING TAKING PLACE THERE. Are there any doctors of American Studies in the house? Thank you. |
by NineInchNachos on 11/10/2011 @ 3:08pm | time for revolution is yesterday www.wbez.org/episode-segments/2011-11-09... |
by low bar on 11/10/2011 @ 9:19pm | i mean, either let the bush tax cuts expire or let homes with incomes less then 100k a year pay no income tax in 2012 as a means of stimulus. but you can't have it the other way around and expect Americans to just spend with credit they can only do but default on given the current fucking inflation and market speculation pricing of fucking oil bullshit. fuck this crap. it makes you want to just get that MBA and join them instead of finishing medical school. |
by NineInchNachos on 11/11/2011 @ 7:58am | Tax the rich already! If they don't like it they can move to... uh they have no where to run. |
