Alan Mason Plaza

The Proctor District Association is helping the Historical Society raise about $250K to erect a statue to Alan Mason. Mr. Mason was one of the early promoters of Tacoma and although he made a lot of money on Tacoma Real Estate we are told he had the highest "integrity". Here's another idea, why don't we save our money and try incorporating integrity into our normal civic lives? This would be a greater honor to the gentleman.

When is this proposed plaza going to be built? I think the term "plaza" is terribly incorrect. Mason Corner is more like it. I also don't understand why the money can't be used for purposes with integrity, for example more safe pedestrian crosswalks and walk and bikeways through the Proctor district.

The reason the Plaza got started is that someone found some old pillars a few years ago that once belonged to Allen Mason. These were salvaged and some overindulgent brain stormers decided we needed to incorporate them into a plaza to honor Tacoma pioneer Allen Mason. Never mind that Mason really wasn't known for anything other than developing much of North Tacoma and coining the phrase "City of Destiny". He was a small man who wore tall hats so in a way he was kind of like Tacoma's version of Kim Jong Il or Mini-me.
