Kids, head on over to the TNT and make sure to vote in their little poll to restore what is now called Mt. Rainier to it's true and rightful name!

Suck it Seattle! This is our Mountain, dammit!

(While we're at it, we'd of course rename the park, too...how awesome would it be to have a Tacoma National Park?)

And seriously, how can "no" be winning in the poll? Let's vote early and vote often before the South 5 gets word and sabotages this thang...

What a surprise to see this in the TNT and a few weeks back on Crosscut!

I bounced this idea around a couple years ago but didn't get any takers. I have the paperwork started if anyone wants to pick up the project. I'm wrapped up with other things right now. The State Geo Naming Board is aware of the effort. And there is a precedent in that Mt Denali was renamed.

Hell, if they can rename Bombay I don't see why we can't rename a mountain!

Peeps, we're getting killed in the little poll on the TNT site. Can we really only muster 42% support for Mt. Tacoma in our own paper????

Totally inexplicable to me. The comments on the TNT site include lots of "we can't talk about this when the world is so full of trouble" and "it would cost too much to change the signs" whining. It's like people treasure the crappy things in life more than they do their power to change things for the better. I don't get it.

I bet if FeedTacoma had a poll, the results would be much different. Kevin?

I say the name goes back to the original name and the curse is finally lifted from Tacoma.

Maybe the change to Mt. Tacoma is not popular because it is not the original name.

Wasn't it Tahoma?

AFAIK Tacoma/Tahoma are just two interpretations of the Native American name...and neither really nails it...

However, the Brown & Haley Mountain Bars were originally "Mt. Tacoma Bars", and we have a commemorative plate featuring area sights including "Mt. Tacoma", so that version isn't unprecedented.

That said, I'm cool with Tahoma as well...
