As the weather improves, and in sync with the beginning of Bike To Work Month, I am resurrecting the feed>>tacoma bike club for another year starting this Sunday, May 10. Current forecast is for sunny and 62.

I am pretty open on time and location starting in the early afternoon. I will probably be riding 50-60 miles all told on Sunday, but I will make sure that whatever route I ride coincides with whatever chunk people are interested in doing.

One option is to mirror our first ride last year: meet up at 21st and Alder and ride up to and around five mile drive, followed by a pit stop at the Goldfish. From there the tired can go home, and the adventurous can keep following me to wherever. Maybe down through UP toward Steilacoom.

Other decent local rides include down on Ruston Way (as long as you're not afraid of getting back up the hill), out toward Parkland on Yakima Ave, or just around the Scott Pierson trail, possibly across the bridge and back. Any and all input is welcome.

I'd join in but I'll be Mother's Day'ing it down in La Center with the fam. Thanks though and keep us posted of future outings!

50-60 Miles. I'll be in training the next couple of months to get to your level. Are you a fast rider with toe clips, and drink water and eat half oranges in the saddle or do you mix up your speed range.

Mofo - I will probably get toe clips sometime soon, but I don't have them at the moment. I have been averaging about 13MPH overall, which includes some fast downhills mixed with some slow uphills. And I do take brakes for water, food, whatever. That is also riding by myself. Riding in groups I will adjust to the speed of the group. I enjoy a relaxed ride as much as I do an outright training ride.

Upon reflection, Mother's Day is probably not the best day to try and get a decent-sized crowd. I'll be riding on Saturday as well, if that suits anybody better. Possibly out to the Orting Foothills Trail.

I'm aiming for mid-June. By that time I'll have also cleaned up my 1974 Schwinn Sports Tourer. It's got the skinny tires and even though it weighs in at 27 pounds the gear ratios are decent.

Not that I'm into pullin' wheelies for two blocks. Besides I put the stock drop bars back on. Those ape hangers are okay for boulevard cruisin' but the stock bars are more comfortable.

Put the Schwinn in the bike shop for full service a month ago. Just gotta earn some money to get it out.
