Thanks to everyone who participated and showed up to last night's event. Thanks especially to my fellow panelists, Jim Diers, Paul Sparks for getting us together, and Veritas for the use of their space. In case you missed out you can play or download audio from the evening below:

Download MP3 (52 mb, right-click then "Save As...")

Feel free to carry on any thoughts or discussion from the night here or feel free to start up any other related discussion in the Local Life forum.

Yes! this is an excellent feature. You can add the wordpress podcast flash player if you wanna be super awesome. working example

I would love to see more audio recordings of community meeting type events! Tacoma Sun are you listening?

I tried out that player but it was choking a bit on the large file. I'll keep on it.

So was anyone inspired to action from last night's meeting? I'm hoping to help other groups start forums here as a way for them to generate awareness and have conversations outside of any events and meetings. I'm also inspired to look into how we could get the City or someone to snag an empty lot by ensie's house for use as a community garden or pocket park.

I am inspired to redouble the efforts to destroy the blightful downtown life sucking abomination otherwise known as the North Park Plaza Parking Garage.

Considering that his name is attached to all three, it looks to me like you want to talk to Mike Yaden.

Frinklin and I have been discussing this for a while. We also would like to take over one of the intersections nearby and paint the hell out of it, slowing down some of the traffic that races up and down North Steele Street between 6th and 21st. Conveniently, there are a couple of great intersections that would work perfectly very near to this empty lot.

I spoke with Jim Diers last night and he essentially told me that the folks in Portland didn't need the city's stamp to go forward with their "traffic calming" plans. It's easier to ask forgiveness than for approval.

I think I could get a good number of people in my neighborhood to take part. With summer coming up now would be a good time to take action.

If that lot is still for sale, the city (metro?) certainly should pick it up. Is the group still together that put the garden back together next door?
