TCC course offerings...Alcohol Dependency and Bartending?

The Tacoma Community College Fall class brochure just landed in my mailbox. I wasn't surprised to see a course in alcohol dependency being offered. I was more than a little surprised that they're also teaching students to become bartenders. Isn't this career a little off the grid for an academic institution? What's next, pole dancing? |

However, practical techniques and methods for success in bartending hardly qualifies as an education in the traditional academic sense.
It's possible that the students of bartending are learning the job specific rules of grammar, and the logic of proper liquid measurements. They may also get instruction on the ethics, the right and a wrong way to hand a glass to a customer. |
