Tacoma's top paid employees about to get a raise.

That's right. If the City Council has it's way, many of the top paid hired help at City Utilities will be getting raises. I mean the people with the $100K-$250K positions. At a time when the average joe in Tacoma is preparing Hamburger Helper and Alpo dinners doesn't this seem a bit insensitive? Is city hall prepared for the political fallout?

Surveys of other utilities have "proven" that the Tacoma counterparts are underpaid. Well, of course, ratepayers in Horses Breath, Utah, and Squeegee Bottom, Florida are going to have to pay a lot for Utility Supervisors. Who would want to live there? This is Tacoma: One of the top 5 cities in the US.

I'll bet there are some young engineers or MBAs who would be attracted to the Tacoma positions with a reasonable salary offer.

So...the solution is that people who have been in positions for a long time and make a good salary should be booted out for younger, inexperienced employees who make less money?

Awesome strategy.

My experience with people with MBAs is that they know very little about the way real business works. In my previous career the people who built the corporation from the ground up did an excellent job running the company. As soon as those with MBAs and the "business experts" and "consultants" got in involved the organization tanked.

I hope you never run anyplace I work.

Ensie@ I didn't actually suggest a "strategy". I made an observation that some new employees could replace the outgoing staff should they discover that the grass was greener elsewhere. Is that such a radical concept?

Your contempt for MBA degree holders seems a bit off the mark. I'm quite certain that a lot of the experienced utilities employees seeking the higher pay are MBAs.

At any rate, if you tell me where you work, I promise not to apply for a supervisory position there. Agreed?
