City of Tacoma adopts "enlightened" hiring policies. What do you think?

The city council has decided that human resources for the city will no longer exclude alcoholics and drug addicts from city employment. It's because they have a sort of "disability." At least that's my understanding.  

Maybe some of these new hires could get on with the police department and strap on a billie club and new glock. Hope they can inflict great bodily harm with some degree of accuracy. I know when I'm drunk it's hard to even pee straight.

I wonder if city workers with traditional disabilities like blindness, deafness or mobility issues will enjoy having drunks and druggies as their administrative counterparts.

Hey cissero, let's get drunk and go apply for some of those sweet city jobs.  Maybe they haven't filled their drunk quota yet. I'll be willing to be acting Mayor. I can use that little hammer thingee and read off some liberal gibberish so I will sound informed and enlightened and they can pay me just $90K per year. I'm OK with that.

sorry, here's the new municipal code provision under discussion:  

" Removing applicants who are “addicted to the excessive use of drugs or intoxicating beverages which has or will affect job performance” from the list of individuals whose applications the Personnel Director may reject, in order to better align with the Americans with Disabilities Act." exit133
