My all time favorite book - those nice neat corners of the excavation - but alas, Mike ends up becoming a custodian.

I was inspired by a conversation with Dave L, and then when I ordered pancakes at Shakabrah the other day, this book was right on the shelf next to my knee.

If you pick up a copy for your children, make sure it's the old, non edited version. I read that the new reprints have parts missing to dumb it down for today's readers.

damn copyright owners!

Yeah, the politically correct crowd has gutted a lot of the old classics. They completely sanitized the Sesame Street Cookie Monster.

Check this out:

In a song in 2004, Cookie Monster revealed that, before he ate his first cookie, he believes his name was Sid.[1] Showing awareness of healthy eating habits for children, since 2006 he has said that cookies are "a sometimes food" and that he also likes fruits and eggplant.

How pathetic.

I remember when Cookie Monster used to be able to pound down an entire package of chocolate chip cookies in one sitting in an eating frenzy session.

And now they have him eating eggplant.

I always hated parking my beater Volvo next to his ridiculous in your face TT Viagra EX, when I went to go pay preschool tuition at the district office.

Update: Former Tacoma superintendent Milligan agrees to drop lawsuit -
www.thenewstribune.com/news/updates/stor...

"The former superintendent’s claim for around $62,000 evaporated with the dismissal of a lawsuit he filed against the school system in July. Milligan, who resigned after one tumultuous year in 2006-07, said the district failed to properly calculate and pay his income taxes when he received a $418,000 cash-and-compensation settlement to leave the job."

"His federal tax return showed a total income of about $753,536 for 2007. He submitted a copy to the school district when he demanded more money. About $517,000 of that came from the Tacoma School District, the return shows. His W-2 forms also list $130,000 in federal income taxes withheld from his 2007 Tacoma pay."

"A split School Board handed him a satisfactory review in March 2007 after just eight months on the job. But when complaints from the community and the teachers union mounted, he and the board agreed to part ways about three months later.

As he departed, he designed the settlement so he would get $275,000 in cash after withholding taxes were paid.

Milligan’s attorney, Mark Deming, said in an April letter to Schreurs that Milligan’s income put him in the 35 percent tax bracket, and the district simply didn’t pay enough in taxes on his behalf.

Schreurs replied that the school system correctly withheld a flat 25 percent.

The school district won."
