by NineInchNachos on 8/26/2008 @ 8:56am | tacoma sun lets us know that Tim Farrell is our go to man.. ![]() www.tacomasun.com/2008/08/26/what-pierce... next time you see Tim ask him if he's seen this cartoon! |
by Erik on 8/26/2008 @ 9:54am | Great political cartoon RR. You are getting better each time with minimal browbeating of the reader. Tacoma and Pierce County are in the unfortunate position of having dead, vacant and underutilized areas in the urban areas and sprawling out in an out of control entropy heat death in the county. Yet, even now, there is still a push to build cross base highway when there is a supposed budget crunch. Perfect for the political cartoons to come out on Tuesday which is city council days. BTW, the Tacoma Sun has not endorsed anyone. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/26/2008 @ 10:00am | Tim is the active District No 4. council member, as a tacoma resident he's my representative I expect to hammer these farm smashing dunderheads!

by KevinFreitas on 8/26/2008 @ 11:28am | My question -- where is the other local media on this? Didn't find anything relevant when searching the TNT's site. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/26/2008 @ 11:52am | maybe a corporate conflict of interest? newsprint needs to get shipped in somehow yo. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/26/2008 @ 12:01pm | dozers are based on beloved childrens book: Katy and the big Snow |
by jenyum on 8/26/2008 @ 12:48pm | I don't know why the TNT hasn't covered it. KOMO reported, the FOX affiliate was also there the other night (though I haven't been able to find the story) and I know the Seattle PI has a reporter on it.
Good question I'm going to nudge Scott Fontaine. |
by NineInchNachos on 8/26/2008 @ 12:52pm | somebody wake up the trib! I'll rattle my contacts... |
by Erik on 8/26/2008 @ 1:46pm | Here's a good place to protest and oppose development. |
by Dave_L on 8/26/2008 @ 4:54pm | Nice dozer - I didn't know that book, but the look is unmistakeable - Virginia Lee Burton's Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel made a big impression on me, and I've recently passed it downward (via a copy from King's). |
by NineInchNachos on 8/26/2008 @ 4:58pm | ![]() love mike mulligan and the steam shovel. hmm wonder if I could work that into a charlie milligan tacoma schools cartoon. Thanks Dave!! |

The suburban expansion continues unabated. Can our Pierce County Candidates help? www.tacomasun.com/2008/08/26/what-pierce... |
by jenyum on 8/27/2008 @ 12:00pm | Tell you Pierce County Council Member that your continued support depends upon their commitment to fund a full-time staff position to administer the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) program and move toward the establishment of permanent funding as soon as possible.
If we wait another year the valley will be one continuous paved surface. Locate your county council member here: www.co.pierce.wa.us/pc/abtus/ourorg/coun... and email them immediately. |
by Erik on 8/27/2008 @ 11:59pm | Sad:
But American Fast Freight says it needs to clear the land and prepare it for warehouse construction before the fall rains arrive. Company spokesman Mike Schuller said Sterino doesn’t have a valid lease. Both sides met all day Wednesday with a mediator before Sterino’s statement was released. In it, he acknowledged that his takeover of another farmer’s lease was invalid. “We just walk away from it,†Sterino said, when reached by phone later. “That’s all I can say, to tell you the truth. That’s all I can say. I just have to walk away.†Neither he nor Schuller would disclose terms of their settlement. Clearing the site could begin Friday or Tuesday. In the end, another chunk of farmland will vanish... www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/story/... |
by NineInchNachos on 8/28/2008 @ 9:52am | this is not an issue of leases or who owns the rights to what property. this is an issue of the brain dead 'free market' destroying the best farmland in the world for the sake of an industry which is literally running on empty. how long are we going to continue the blind march to extinction? People are waking up to the reality that without cheap oil, we're going to need local farms to keep our people alive. eventually when AFF goes out of business, their legacy will be a crumbling warehouse atop destroyed farm land. I'd like to continue to do things that will be useful to the world and its inhabitants |
by jenyum on 8/28/2008 @ 6:41pm | Now AFF would like our help to save the plants?
