Tacoma Schools Alternative ---> Vashon

Several years ago our daughter chose to attend Vashon for high school over all the options she had in Seattle. She commuted each day by boat with lots of similarly minded kids attending their middle school and high school. Today she is attending the UW in the honors program. If you're fed up with the Tacoma schools, you might consider having your child commute to Vashon by the Point Defiance ferry. There is no extra cost, other than the boat. You won't be disappointed. |

by jarlyons on 9/22/2011 @ 3:17pm | A walkon pass costs about $35 for 10 rides, or you can get a monthly pass for about $50 - $55. The school district sends a bus to pick up kids on the north end, so I assume they would do so for any kids at the south end as well. |

by jarlyons on 9/22/2011 @ 10:35pm | I would call the school office (Vashon elementary, middle or high school) with any specific questions about the form. I can say that from experience, one issue when we went through this was to get our local school district to sign off the waiver that affectively allows the state to send the funds to the alternate (in this case Vashon ....) school district. Additionally, since they (Vashon) are not your home district, they are not required to accept transfers ... that would explain the questions regarding the applicant.
