Something interesting for the weekend....
The city of Astoria, OR begins it's Bicentennial Celebration Friday. Some of the highlights are: All weekend, sail the Columbia River on the Lady Washington or Hawaiian Chieftain for a three-hour family-oriented Adventure Sail or a 3-hour Battle Sail. (think booming cannons). Saturday the 21st from 10 to noon watch a narrated trade re-enactment with the tall ships and several canoes from the Chinook Nation. Saturday at 2:15 the Chinooks, Grand Rhonde and other NW Natives will have canoe races on the Columbia There will also be lectures and lots (and lots) of other things to do. Check this link for more information. www.astoria200.org/ The local weather forecast and tides for Astoria on Saturday, May 21st, 2011 are: Showers with a high of 58 degrees and a low of 48 degrees. Winds will be Westerly at 5 mph and the air quality is listed as good. There is no UV index available. Remember this is still Chinook Country and the Great Spirit could ask Mother Earth to provide sun with breezy winds. Mean Low Ebb Tide will be 11:19 am at -0.7 feet. Mean High Flood Tide will be 5:57 pm at 7.5 feet. The fastest way to get to Astoria (2 hrs, 40 mins) is I5 to Olympia, Leave I5 at Olympia toward Ocean Beaches (hwy. 12). At Montesano exit to Hwy 107 toward Raymond/Long Beach/Asstoria. 107 dead-ends at 101. Follow hwy 101 to Astoria. |
