If Boe can show a strong record of standing up to Anderson/Ramsdell/Strickland/Woodards/Walker/and Fey he will attract the votes of people who are tiring of the Tacoma good ole boys network.

by NineInchNachos on 5/11/2011 @ 9:48am
Indeed I have my frustrations with BOE, as I believe he does not like to get his hands dirty diving into hot button social issues as seen by his abstain vote on the symbolic Arizona non-boycott thing but he does get off on the fine print of developer/government projects... he was the only one to raise flags on the Cheney Stadium agreements (with help from Robert Hill) on the absence of a federally required protest area and the magic disappearing roof-line. Keep BOE, and Vote in ANDERS IBSEN. Anders has the legal-ease mumbo-jumbo smarts required to challenge Anderson..

Also Boe did vote against the obscene Davita parkinglot... a direct challenge to Anderson.

by fredo on 5/11/2011 @ 10:28am
Boe and Mello have a big handicap. They are both appointees, and in order to properly represent their districts they need to be able to stand up against the very same people who appointed them. This is an unholy situation and really harms the voters of Tacoma.

And why did we end up in a situation where we have 2 appointees (25% of the council)?

You can thank Julie Anderson and Marilyn Strickland for that. Both ran for 4 years terms to the council but declined to tell the voters that they didn't actually intend to serve the full 4 years.

Blind ambition once again hamstrings the City of Tacoma.

Go Boe!

Let's make Tacoma (more) of a place worth caring about!

This Kunstler video sums it up:

don't forget jake fey running for a leg seat 1 year into his 4 year term...and don't forget young mr mello was just elected to a parks commish spot when he left for city council...victoria woodards was in the middle of her parks term when she left to do the same...these people are animals because they realize tacoma is full of simpletons that will vote for whoever their union rag lists on the back page. it is time for leaders to start rectifying the issue of voter/community apathy instead of capitalizing on it - how responsible and noble a leader would be to endevour for knowledge and participation instead of VOTES!

by fredo on 5/11/2011 @ 11:24am
well said, very well said indeed cissero.

some of these people who are constantly jumping from one contest to another I believe are affected by a narcissistic personality disorder. they have a prevalent need to show everyone that they possess superhuman abilities and that no one else could possibly be as right-thinking as they are. the double and triple dippers are positively narcissistic.

by NineInchNachos on 5/11/2011 @ 11:44am
people vote on name recognition and the volume of bold font in their voter pamphlet. Elected office job hopping is annoying, but Boe hasn't done that that!

by fredo on 5/11/2011 @ 11:47am
NIN-agreed.

How many perfectly disgraceful people have been elected because their name looks cool in Helvetica?

by cisserosmiley on 5/11/2011 @ 11:51am
boe has not...but neither had julie anderson or the mayor when they were in his chair...mr. boe can you give me 4 years? i have given 4 years to so many things, i have given 40 to this city, 4 years is easy and will fly by if you are busy and dedicated...please answer mr boe, is 4 years too much or do you feel pretty good about that amount of time?

by Jesse on 5/11/2011 @ 11:52am
Cynical. Cynical. Cynical!

I think that most people who go to work each day have the best of intentions. Including politicians.

Anyone in office long enough will piss off just about everybody at one point or another if they're actually working.

by fredo on 5/11/2011 @ 11:54am
the path to hell is paved with good intentions

by cisserosmiley on 5/11/2011 @ 12:01pm
oh jesse, please know that i wish everyone was noble. it is a fact that money, power, and prestige make SOME humans fail. who knows which ones? but until WE know which ones, all people seeking money, power, and prestige are suspect to me. that is my gift to Tacoma, i will not be duped even if it means taking a swipe at a good guy once in a while to see what happens.

by NineInchNachos on 5/11/2011 @ 12:17pm
The Boe seat is seen as vulnerable... Boe isn't exactly a team player when it comes do obeying the commands of the puppet strings and so I'm sure there are name-brand politicians circling this seat like hungry sharks... It is still early and who knows how many big names will come out of the woodwork... John Ladenburg is so bored he's thinking about running for town dog catcher. Will be really something if BOE makes it back into that seat

by cisserosmiley on 5/11/2011 @ 12:23pm
VOTE BOE! but maybe jan shabro, shawn bunney, or calvin goings would use my address to sign up for the city council election???

by fredo on 5/11/2011 @ 12:29pm
Well Jesse, the council wisely voted to eliminate the B&O tax for Tacoma's micro-business community. So that's to be admired.

The problem is that almost every other decision has been wrong. The council is charged with delivering the highest level of necessary services for the lowest amount of money. The council fails miserably at this.

by NineInchNachos on 5/11/2011 @ 1:32pm
@cisserosmiley Kucinich ?

by Erik on 5/11/2011 @ 4:08pm
Boe has been a professional architect in Tacoma for a great many years, never held another elected position, unlikely looking to seek higher office, and hence, is the most likely to buck the system for the good of the city.

An extreme rarity for Tacoma City Council member.

Wore my giant cossack war fez, I hate a ton of free cheese burgers and icecream and refused to make an in-kind donation to the campaign. It was the greatest night of my life.

by Erik on 5/12/2011 @ 12:34am

Awesome!

by boearc on 5/12/2011 @ 9:52am
cisserosmiley, et al - my running for a full-term on the City Council is due in a large part because of the length of time it takes to make significant modifications to many of the existing City policies - especially in regards to land use regulations - in order to foster and incentify new and rehab developments of quality within our urban centers. To leave a term 'early' to pursue other political aspirations for me would be disingenuine to all of those who have supported me through the appointment process, my short tenure on the Council and now this campaign for election. So given the opportunity of a full-term in November, it will be my honor serve for a full 4-year term.

by cisserosmiley on 5/12/2011 @ 10:03am
thanks

What about the issues?
What does Boe think about the plans to "spruce up" Pac Ave?

by NineInchNachos on 5/12/2011 @ 10:16am
Thanks Council-member BOE!
