Suite133

Derek's got a new business bag, baby. From the BE Daily:

The mind behind Exit133.com have announced their first long-term, three-dimensional business venture - an innovative office environment to be known as Suite133, located at Seventh Street and Pacific Avenue in Tacoma.

The so-called co-working space will be part office, part brain trust and part collaborative, creative nexus. Tacoma's first co-working space will be operated by three partners - Derek Young, the man behind Exit133.com, HoratioTheater's Erik Hanberg and creative design specialist Shamus Holman.

Interesting idea. Will the local freelance/small biz community react well to the cost vs. benefits as opposed to all the comfortable coffee shops around here?

I bet if you add up all the coffee and cookie expenses from the caffeine dens it will equal about the $250 mo. the suite133 is asking.

Yea, but I bet the coffee elsewhere is better. ;)

The idea seems solid and kinda' incubator-esque in its sharing of resources. I think the other draw of the coffee shop like setting is the randomness of seeing other folks and networking with them. Can't imagine other, non suite users just passing through like they would in the wild.

A great idea. Glad to see someone step forward and sign onto the main lease which is always the difficulty with shared space ideas.

I know how hard it is to get a small space. Usually office space comes in huge blocks and they need alot of renovations.

Here's what they say about the area:

It is tremendously exciting to announce the creation of Suite133 – a coworking environment in one of downtown Tacoma’s hottest neighborhoods.

Wow. And I thought it was just another block downtown. Seriously, this space is one of the best in Tacoma with so many things within a few blocks. Restaurants galore. It has a walkability score of 88.

Here's a place for entrepreneurs, designers, artists, writers, poets, dreamers, bloggers, and anarchists to work.

Of course, there is always the challenge of getting along with your fellow "Human Co-workers."

Very cool idea. I like everything about it.

I read the articles about the space. I liked what one woman said about working at home where the house gets really clean, but it's hard to focus on the work part. I can relate to that too as I work out of a home office. I am highly involved in the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and those events really help with the networking.

I'm also writing a book, "Rainbow to Your Success" which of course requires a lot of mental time. I like to do my writing at the Mandolin Cafe. It gets me away from the two cats too.
