Comic Book Ink in Trouble

Yesterday morning John, the owner of Tacoma's Comic Book Ink sent the following to the Comic Book Ink email list. Like many retailers, and like many of us, he's feeling the pinch of the economic crisis. The possibility exists that he may have to close in January '09.

"We need your help. We need your support. We need to get through these next several weeks or, because of the recent economic times and things that have happened at the shop, we might have to shutter our doors at the end of January. But, I need you to know, I am NOT GIVING UP...Neither are my associates at Comic Book Ink. We need your help.

I have not fought as hard as I have over the last six years, not lost so much, ruined my credit rating and asked so much of you...to give up and I am NOT giving up, but I am sending out an e-mail to all of our subscribers letting them know that they need to pick up their comics as often as they can...hopefully weekly...(even in these rough economic times), support their shop as best they can, encourage their friend and families to include us in the holiday plans and try to help us through storm. I simply cannot do it without your help. There will be no Bonds this time."

Comic Book Ink needs a federal bailout, and I for one would prefer that our bailout dollars go to small mom and pops like this. Hang in there Comic Book Ink!

Thanks for posting this, Brooks. I'll have to go out and buy a trade from John.

John's been through a lot to try to keep this store open... home foreclosure, pushing to and beyond the limits of his credit. It's really sad that it's taken so much to keep going, because the shop itself is really fantastic. They have a great selection from a wide range of comic genres. John has always been great about recommending comics that I have subsequently gotten utterly hooked on.

Trust me, I've been to shops up and down the west coast and Comic Book Ink ranks at the very top. t would be a crime if it shut down.

John is a great member of our community and Comic Book Ink has been recognized time after time as one of the best comic book stores in the country. What a resource to have in our own backyard!

If you've never been to a comic book store before, this is the shop for you. John revels in helping people find exactly what they want, and greets every customer - veteran collector or complete newbie - with the same friendly smile.
