Kale? Already??

(today's box o' joy, less joyous...)

My weekly manna from heaven (veggie delivery) came and while the carrots, peaches, blueberries, apricots, and red-leaf lettuce delighted me, I have to admit to feeling...deflated on seeing the kale.

I'm aware that CSA co-ops and organic delivery can translate to "lots of kale and chard" --but I thought that was more, like, fall and winter? After seeing the bounty of goodness at yesterday's Sixth Ave Farmer's Market (from my perch atop Masa's roof --ahhhh, delight: sunshine, friends, happy hour chardonnay!) I suppose I just expected... I dunno. Peppers? Onions? Something more snackable, maybe, less "Must get domesticated and actually cook."

Mind you, I've been Jane Domestic, lately, with my sewing projects building up steam (from an iron, perhaps?) and with the meals I've been cooking thanks to Terra.

But, dude.

by dawntown on 8/6/2008 @ 2:57pm	If you must, you can adorn my bag with the excess kale. Or better yet, sew a truly organic, recycled purse out of kale. WTF is kale? I know its that green stuff they put on your eggs benny as decoration at cheap diners. But what is the real reason for kale? Anyone? Bueller?

by Jake on 8/6/2008 @ 3:10pm	I just made some Kale last week. MMMM good stuff. Just cook it for a minute until it is bright green then put some lemon juice on it.
by thriceallamerican on 8/6/2008 @ 3:24pm	Steamed greens in general are good, so that is the go-to kale solution. Also, sauteing in a little bit of balsamic is pretty good. (I'm sorta partial to collards myself, but kale and chard are good, too!) But here's a secret little healthy tip for your kale: chop up a leaf or two and throw it in the blender with your smoothie-makings. You won't taste it one bit, but you'll still get your greens!

by Rue on 8/6/2008 @ 8:14pm	What I like to do with healthy green things like kale is drown them in some sort of fat and cheese and cook them a long time. Then I eat them up. Yum!
