KFnet in T-Town

After a little more than a month open The Hub looks like it's doing solid business. After a solid opening there's been some less than glowing reviews mixed with other good ones. So how are they doing today?

AP, ensie, Cassioposa and I stopped by last night and noticed many a family celebration Mother's Day dinner there. I kept things light and went for just a Caesar salad and munched on some of fries in the basket ensie ordered. The salad was good and I believe AP enjoyed his fish 'n chips. Service was great with our fries coming out quickly and drink refills steadily rolling in. Our server checked on us a few times and even discounted ensie's meal after a mention of the overy-salty mashed potatoes. I gave them a taste and they were salty and no where near as fantastic as the ones I had upon our first visit last month. ensie's steak also missed the mark. She wasn't asked how she'd like it cooked so it came medium and a bit dried out. The pepper rub also seemed burnt which rendered it pretty tasteless. AP's meal also came with the fries he asked be swapped for a salad though, instead, he received both.

Not sure if these are still just kinks or if this sort of spotty quality and inconsistent service will continue. Maybe the steak will never but up to snuff (though, I've had it when they make it that way) and visitors should stick to the Italian side of the menu. Hard to tell at this point but I certainly haven't given up just yet. How's the Hub been for you lately?

by izenmania on 5/12/2008 @ 8:50am	Well, even if you did have a really positive experience with it before, if you're going to a pizza place looking for a quality steak, you're probably making the wrong move.
by KevinFreitas on 5/12/2008 @ 9:07am	Yea, I wouldn't be surprised if it fades from the menu. I don't think it adds much especially if they can't be as consistent with a steak as they can their pizzas.
by Dmitri on 5/12/2008 @ 9:08am	Over the years, I've found both the service and the food at the Harmon to be hit-and-miss, sometimes good, sometimes truly wretched. So, it doesn't surprise me that the same is true of The Hub. I agree a pizza joint may not be the best place to get a steak, but there's no excuse for not asking how you want it cooked.
by Erik on 5/12/2008 @ 9:14am	I do not think I have had the steak. However, I can can vouch for a variety of pizzas on the menu especially in relation to most other places in town.
by ensie on 5/13/2008 @ 1:04am	I keep hoping I'll go there and have the awesome steak experience Kevin had a month or two ago. He had a phenomenal steak that he said was the best he'd experienced in Tacoma. I have had nothing but disappointment. I do have to say that while the service was terrible on one of my visits, and the food spotty overall, I like the Hub's general atmosphere. I LOVE the fries and think that maybe Kevin's steak may have been a fluke. It's possible tthat the steak is just always going to suck.
by Heather on 5/13/2008 @ 11:24pm	My first veggie sandwich was really amazing -- or was I just really hungry? My second veggie sandwich was pretty good, but they gave me the wrong fries. Also, I am a big fan of L'Ecole wines, of which they have three varietals. I agree that Ahmad and James are great. I, too, like the general atmosphere and I'll keep going back until they give me a good reason to stay away!
by izenmania on 5/13/2008 @ 11:41pm	I've been there twice now, and have not been driven away by any bad experience. However, I have not been impressed enough by anything to go back. Yeah, the fries are good. And the pizza is decent. But nothing I've had there yet has been worth the price, or has made me want to go there more than some other location. If I want a fancy/weird (by American standards) designer pizza, I'll take the Rock over the Hub any day (and I hold the Rock's beers and the Harmon's beers to be about equal). If I want to craft my own pizza from the ingredient list I prefer Farelli's. I won't specifically avoid the Hub if other people invite me along, but I don't see myself ever recommending it or taking people there by my own choice.

Although I have another home on the web I thought it might be nice to lead by example a bit and put this blog system up to the test myself.
