The dipper

So that dipper that has been installed of the hotel murano is now there... what do you think? what was the point of the city flinging money into the project again? I feel really let down, I have not once been like oh hey guys welcome to tacoma checkout this cool art sculpture... I honestly think it should be a climbing wall now that would be something to see! Anyways how does anyone else feel about the dipper is it everything you had hoped it would be?

I like it and especially enjoy the scale. It's overall simple but lends a great accent to the Murano building itself. Similar blue slotted glass (I believe by the same artist) encloses much of the entry area and it all goes really well with the linear touches through out the hotel. I for one would like to see the City invest in more art on this scale in town.

Here's a slew of pics I snapped of Orizon shortly after it was unveiled.

The dipper rocks. One of the best pieces of art in the city IMO.

Here's one of Kevin's pictures:

it is as awesome as art bolted to the side of 1980's style hotel chain can be. I was looking forward to someday bonking my head on it until they installed the glass/rock detritus around the base.

The city can't fund basic services, but glass art? No problem, where's the checkbook? And whatever happened to that publicly owned $250,000 glass sculpture that some teenager knocked over and broke? Anybody recall how that little embarressment was addressed?

And what's with always commissioning non-local artists?

How many pieces in the city are non-local vs. local?

I'm just wondering.

Wait... the city paid for this, not Hotel Murano?
