Tall Ships on Puget Sound

Book Talk

Chuck Fowler will talk about his new book, a photo-rich history of tall sailing ships on the Sound. Starting in the mid-1700s, tall ships brought explorers, settlers, and entrepreneurs to the region. For the next two centuries, the vessels continued to ply the waters of the Puget Sound. Today, the ships operate in a training and education context and will be returning to Tacoma for Tall Ships 2008. The book features 180 rare photographs and illustrations. The talk will be accompanied by a visual presentation with photos from the book.

Chuck Fowler is an author and maritime historian who has researched and written about tall ships for the past two decades. He is the founding executive director of the Working Waterfront Maritime Museum and is co-founder of the Pacific Northwest Maritime Heritage Council. Fowler is also an officer of the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society in Seattle and a national board member of the American Sail Training Association (Newport, RI).
