Garden Film Screening: The Secret of Kells

Free Family Movie Night at Gallucci Learning Garden

Join us for a special screening of the Academy Award Nominee and animated feature film The Secret of Kells, shown on a projector in the Gallucci Learning Garden Plaza! We will be serving popcorn, and the Hilltop Pop Shop will be selling locally and lovingly crafted popsicles! Seating will be provided, but as it will be outdoors, please bring blankets and cushions if you need them.

The Secret of Kells an independently produced animated feature-length film. The story is about a young monk and his quest to write the illuminated manuscript that will later become the Book of Kells, a real book that is now a national treasure of Ireland, against all odds. The animation is inspired by the Book of Kells itself, and is stunningly unique. The story is a melange of Irish folklore and history, and ranges from the true-to-life to the fantastical. Since the story is in many ways true-to-life, Viking raids are depicted, though the Vikings are abstracted into inhuman creatures. It must be noted that there is violence depicted in this scene. I have included below some notes about content rating so you know what to expect if you bring a child under the age of 8 years old.
