So ready for tomorrow's chalk action! Anyone have a theme? Daffodils? How about a sponsor we can promote?

by L.S.Erhardt
on 4/5/2012 @ 10:27am
How about "Brought to you by the number 5"?

by KevinFreitas
on 4/5/2012 @ 10:31am
Hehe, that's pretty nice. Frost Park 5 is Alive!

by Adam the Alien
on 4/5/2012 @ 11:26am
If you haven't seen it, yet, be sure to get pumped for tomorrow by checking out my "Frost Park: Four Years Later" video:

Also, my unedited footage of the City Council proclaiming tomorrow Frost Park Chalk Day is now up:

I was thinking flowers.

by CaptainBritton
on 4/5/2012 @ 4:43pm
Easter-ish imagery would be nice.

by Adam the Alien
on 4/5/2012 @ 5:02pm
I say we go old-school with a general Tacoma theme, whether that's Daffodil Festival stuff, Easterish stuff or even Frost Park pride.

by L.S.Erhardt
on 4/5/2012 @ 5:17pm
"5" was the theme I previously suggested. I suggest we go with it.

by Adam the Alien
on 4/5/2012 @ 6:26pm
This may be the beginning of the fifth year, but I think the theme of "5" should wait until the start of next year, when the chalk-offs will technically be five years old.

by Erik
on 4/5/2012 @ 6:45pm
Frost Park supporter Tim Ferrell will be the sponsor tomorrow with mystery prize(s)!

Ferrell was a previous sponsor as well:

Here was a picture of Tim in the pre Frost Park "take back the park" days when the area was almost fenced.

by KevinFreitas
on 4/6/2012 @ 7:26am
Great, thanks Erik! What will the winner win?

Here are today's entries! Voting is on 'til midnight tonight and I've added a KIDS category and am personally offering up $20 to Teaching Toys in Proctor to the lucky winner in that category.

So, choose your favorite in each of the KIDS and GROWN UPs categories and use the word "vote" when doing so. Kids can also vote via their parent's account so tell you friends and let the voting begin!

I vote for Debivans- it's just too messed up and disturbing not to vote for.

My second-place vote goes to Andrea's work, which simply just outstanding.

by KevinFreitas
on 4/6/2012 @ 2:13pm
Get out the vote ladies and gentleman -- let's help clue others in to help appreciate the heck out of all this fantastic art! Can we clock in 100 votes today? I think we can! Get the word out via social media, bullhorn, airplane banner, whatever!

What about in the KIDS category @Jinx?

I vote for Stowe
Because rather than sucking up to the theme he did another out of the park caricature of a chalkie.
I vote for Michelle
Because I think drawing big giant 5's is a cool, and it was very well done.

@Kevin: "What about in the KIDS category @Jinx?"

I thought that's what my Debivans vote was... ..a drawing of a disturbed kid...

If you meant "by" a kid, well then my kid's vote goes to Barret- who captures an optimism lost and happiness yet to be discovered through the heavy use of yellow and bold strokes of the hand.

42 votes so far! That may be an odd intersection of us and live, the meaning of the universe, and everything but it's no 100! Share this sucker on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or whatever and let's show the chalkies we care!

There's a beautiful WA bottle of wine and $25 to Amocat up for grabs for the adults and a $20 gift certificate to Teaching Toys for the kids. Vote vote vote!

For the kids, it's a really tough call, but I'm going to have to vote for Max. He was drawing next to me, and he was quite a pleasant chalk neighbor.

I don't think that anyone will be surprised that for adults, my vote goes to Stowe. I'm floored and flattered by his incredible chalking of me, and both my ego and my inner sap demand that this be my favorite piece. Thank you so much, Stowe; I love it!

Did anyone - Kevin or otherwise - get a more complete shot of Stowe's piece? Kevin's picture cuts off the top of the alien, and I'd love to put a copy of the full piece on my computer as the background or some such thing.

Also, the Unknown artist on the rainbow bees is named Shana.

by L.S.Erhardt

I vote for my son Barrett ('natch) in the Kid's Category. he did download and print out photo reference to accurately capture bird poop in chalk after all.

For the Adult Category I vote for Debivans' portrait of Joe Izenman. That is who that is right?

by AP

I vote Troy (GROWN UP) and Max (KID). Max's spaceship is just awesome and reminds me of something I would've drawn when I was little. I especially liked that, as I asked him to do, he came to get me to snap its picture when he was done.

Amazing day out there and I truly enjoyed seeing everyone's piece and everyone themselves as well! Just over 3 hours left and just under 30 votes to go. Let's hit 100!

by barrett

Adults: I vote for my dad (Stowe)

Vote for Britton and Kyra.

by demgal88
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:15pm
I vote for Georgia in the kids
and Monlux in the adults

I am virtually certain that Tim will not award anyone bees in a jar with holes in the lid....though the winner will be very fortunate if they get some honey....
Glad that I saw Kevin's post on Facebook. After voting I vow to repost! We will get to 100!

by Mandiferous
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:18pm
I vote for Georgia (kids) and Monlux (adult).

Props to Deidre for the Houston tribute. I heard a couple days ago that he'd passed. He was such a fun guy. I remember years and years ago when we were repainting the inside of Rampart and he was up on an extension ladder, singing and dancing so hard that he and the ladder fell (he was fine).

by debivans
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:34pm
For my Kid VOTE I will go with Kyra and for my Groan Up VOTE I will go with Monlux.

Nice chalking by all today. Great turnout! I hope that is a trend that lasts till Halloween.

Stowe, actually I was inserting my own mug into my piece. Although you can make him anyone you want.

Here's a question for folks:

Would people be interested in a Frost Park T-shirt with the word cloud on it? I would probably sell them for close to cost, and they would be a nice quality shirt.

If people are interested, I will put together a mock-up and take pre-orders once I know more.

by Dianne
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:44pm
I vote for Kyra and Thorax with Joel as my second choice. I like words.

by demgal88
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:48pm
Joel, I want a t-shirt but, what word cloud?? Be sure to get sizes for "fully developed adults"...
can we have the wagon image with the chalk in it on the shirt? will you have a union printers bug on the shirts? There is a printer out on the tideflats who will do that...

by Joel 413
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:54pm
A word cloud is what I drew this week.

I will probably use a local printer, or a shop that we use at work that uses american apparel. Not sure,

i will look into it.

by PenguinHatGirl
on 4/6/2012 @ 9:55pm
I vote Georgia and Andrea :)

But all of the chalk drawings are so good! :o I'm so impressed.

by Courtney

I vote for Debivans. So creepy and weird and yet so springy too. But I thought Stowe did a great job on Adam the Alien who deserves a big thank you for his cool video. For kid vote, gotta go with my boy, Barrett. Yes the little white spot on his happy face is suppose to be bird poop.

by donna
on 4/6/2012 @ 10:44pm
Georgia in kids has terricif happy bees!!

by Earthdaughter
on 4/6/2012 @ 11:04pm
Great work today, everyone! I vote for Georgia in the kid's category. BTW - it's too bad no one caught a photo of the TOP of the wall where she did the bees. She drew a starfish and crab and another sea creature.

The adult group is even harder. So many great entrees. No one has mentioned Hank's lovely purple flowers and bees. I'm very partial to purple! And Thorax's Tree of All Seasons was great. But I have to agree that Stowe did a wonderful job capturing Adam and his avatar though I'd have loved it if the "craft" had been a bee and the controls its antennae! Still Stowe gets my vote! See you at future chalk offs.

My daughter and I had a really great time! She just loved the hula hoops.

This was my first time actually chalking. Over the years I just watched the amazing talent.

Here's a photo of Sterling's chalk art.

I'm not sure how to add photos. I'm not sure if this will work.

We know now who got the most votes. But the real winners are us for having so many amazing young people downtown doing chalk art. Downtown will never be what it should be unless it is friendly to our children. Splendid work by all, particularly the children!!
