Rebecca Harrison Book Talk

Rebecca Harrison will talk about her book Deep, Dark and Dangerous: On the Bottom with the Northwest Salvage Divers. Salvage divers have the most dangerous occupation in the Northwest, with half of them meeting their demise during hazardous dives. Their work ranges from repairing concrete foundations for bridges to locating sunken boxcars - virtually any underwater salvage or repair work. Salvage divers are carpenters, masons, riggers, hydraulic mechanics, ironworkers, welders, pile bucks, and underwater engineers. Working underwater in darkness, they have to fight both frigid temperatures and treacherous currents. Join us for a talk about this daring occupation and the history of salvage divers in the Northwest.
