Mineral Design Studio is pleased to present work by Nicholas Nyland. Spanning a range of media, including oil painting, drawing, and sculpture, Nyland's artwork is generous and capacious, able to absorb and then release a multitude of references -- such as Chinese scholar's stones, early American decorative traditions, Japanese gardens, or seventies design. Jess Van Nostrand wrote in the SOIL 2006 catalogue, "Nyland opens up space with a distinctive aesthetic inviting the viewer to look beyond the surface."

Nyland's work has been included in exhibitions at Seattle's SOIL Gallery, Tacoma Contemporary Installations in the Woolworth Windows, and Tacoma Art Museum's 8th Northwest Biennial.
