A British Colonial Picnic, Tea, and Potluck Curry in Wright Park

It's high time to break out the pith helmets and safari jackets

Join us in Wright Park, next to the Seymour Botanical Conservatory for our annual British Colonial Summer Picnic. This event is co-hosted by von Mausheim's Society of Dastardly Exiles and Tacoma's very own Steam Town- uniting local chappists, Victorian and Edwardian recreationalists, and steampunks for a combined Tea, Picnic, and yes- a Potluck Curry in the park.

We will have a "special rules" Croquet match (Kashmiri War Croquet), a competitive strolling event, and a tea cup relay, as well as other games and amusements for attendees. Prizes will be awarded for many categories, some of which will not be decided until the day of the event. Would you like to serenade us with a musical performance? Then there shall be a prize for that, as well.

So, dust off your pith helmets, press your khakis, don your safari jackets, and fuel up the Land-Rover for a day of friendly assosciation in the park.

Be sure to use your computational engine to frequently check the "vMSDE" blog (linked below) for details and updates regarding events and prizes as we draw closer to this splendid Saturday afternoon...

Well, that would certainly be part of the British Colonial Period in India now, wouldn't it? We never said it had to be a specifically British impression, just one appropriate to the period...

(but you may require a set of bandoliers to go with the very tall furry hat, Sahib- just remember not to use the paper Enfield cartridges that were lubricated with pork grease- that would be quite haram, don't you know....)

I do say old boy. Looks like a proper place to invite Sir Rev Mckinney. Hope he has time to share some of his superior views on everything. Though I'm sure someone will have to make his worship go.

Then by all means, please invite the said good reverend. All of our fun and games shall be quite above-board, so a man of the cloth should not have any need to feel out of place at all.

Note- the medals for the "Sport" champions and for "Best Curry" are being delivered tomorrow.

A new event has been added to the "Sport" category, one which involves very little actual physical activity: "Dastardly Yahtzee". (Yes, points won in "Dastardly Yahtzee" count towards the "Sport" champion medals.)

Here's the latest- all of the final pieces all falling into place in preparation for the annual picnic.

As of Friday morning, the medals have arrived, the certificates and "swag" labels have been printed, and portable shelter has been secured in the unlikely event of inclement weather. (That's right, "Dastardly Yahtzee" can be played under the security of a pavilion roof, while sipping whatever tea you happened to have brought. Such cover also is suitable for keeping your banjoleles dry if choosing to compete in the musical categories.)

The picnic has gained the notice of some local entertainment periodical entitled "The Spew", but we are not quite sure what that actually means.

Meanwhile, we are welcoming all new friends to this, our annual family picnic- just remember, in respect to our sartorial goals, no "jeans", please.

If anyone has last-minute questions regarding this outing, we believe that many of them will be answered simply by perusing back-posts on the society's web-log at the link at the tail of the previous post above.

We shall see you- ...tomorrow.

The weather has cleared, and the sun is out. It shall be a GLORIOUS day for the picnic. Incidentally, new prizes have been added to the prize box, and there is some extra "expedition" wear available, as well.
