Frost Park Chalk Off

Season 4, Episode 5

Come down to Frost Park and get your chalk off on! This weekly community art-in-action is open to all who want to chalk, snap photos, or just come by to enjoy their lunch and meet other Tacoma-types.

This week's sponsor is Andrew Fry who's offering up comics! A 1978 issue one of Machine Man with Jack Kirby doing the art (one of the Avengers reserves) in near mint condition and a 1976 King Size issue one of Luke Cage Power Man (soon to be a movie with the old spice guy in the lead) in VF condition. Thanks to Andrew!

Might you consider a royal theme?

Several of us will be decked out in our finest Royal Wedding wear (including big fancy hats) for the Royal Wedding Tea at Serenity Garden Designs at 1:00 PM.

I think it would be great fun for us to show up all decked out for a Royal Chalk Off.

Note the distinctive Jack Kirby styling.

You can't contain the power.

beautiful! also, had to listen to flipping british wankers blathering about royal morons on NPR today. Americans should do their duty and loathe the British Royal Family for god sakes.

for me, it was an excuse to take a day off from work, sleep in and go to a party...

if you don't want me bringing a new crowd to the chalk off, oh well ;)

by NineInchNachos
on 4/28/2011 @ 11:53am
No no, please come! We can mock the toffy nosed red coats together!

by KevinFreitas
on 4/28/2011 @ 12:18pm
Any royalty-related chalked could easily go either way pro/con. I hope you guys do come down in period garb! That would be the bee's knees!

by NineInchNachos
on 4/28/2011 @ 12:35pm
we can have a boston tea party in one of the empty frost park tubs. Dress like indian braves!

by wildcelticrose
on 4/28/2011 @ 2:12pm
It's not really period garb, it's what we'd wear to the actual wedding had we not declined the invitation because we prefer the company of Gritty Tacomans

by wildcelticrose
on 4/28/2011 @ 2:13pm
probably the only chance for anyone local to see me in high heels (that is IF I can walk down the street in them; I had to take my heels and hose off on Carnival to get down 7th St)

by NineInchNachos
on 4/28/2011 @ 2:29pm
ALERT: will be selling "TAGRO NOT FOR EXPLOSIVES" posters at Frost Park tomorrow for $1 each. limited supply!

Since I am predominantly of Scottish descent, I would be eternally grateful to any chalk artist (I most certainly can not soil my opera gloves) who chalks a "Free Scotland" theme...

by wildcelticrose
on 4/28/2011 @ 6:06pm
If you have/make room for a Royal theme, I will get down on my knees (in morning dress) and chalk a Free Scotland theme myself.

Otherwise, I'll just stand and watch...

Let me know... I'll need to buy chalk (and find something to pad my knees)

by Earthdaughter
on 4/28/2011 @ 10:47pm
There's always free chalk available. Only pastels, but that would be fitting!

LOST AND FOUND ALERT! the owner of some chalk and chalk related items forgotten after last week's event is welcome to claim them. A regular visitor/fan of Frost Park Chalk Off found them and asked they get back to their rightful person. Shouldn't be hard to find me to ID your stuff. I'm the short, thick blond lady in a goofy Indiana Jones looking hat.

by KevinFreitas
on 4/29/2011 @ 7:03am
That had is so not goofy. #jealous

RR- I thought you hated America? Wouldn't a return to the commonwealth with it's fully integrated National Health Service, free education, and total political correctness be a bit more to your liking?

by KevinFreitas
on 4/29/2011 @ 11:04am
Radar looks clear for chalking! See everyone there!

by NineInchNachos
on 4/29/2011 @ 11:06am

Thanks to everyone who helped me up and down the hill in those silly heels. (seriously, how do women wear those things)

The chalk dust amused everyone at the Royal Wedding Tea.

by MsPoppy
on 4/29/2011 @ 4:05pm
Vote for Andrea. If Apples to Apples has a "The Tardis" card it would so win every time!

by Mark Monlux

by AnagramPress
on 4/29/2011 @ 5:47pm
What, no Spirit Capture™ portrait of Princess Beatrice in her disconcertingly uterine millinery?

I knew I should have shown up to chalk today. But in any case, I vote for R X R. Which, of course, stands for "Royal Riot." I think.

by Courtney
on 4/29/2011 @ 5:51pm
I vote for Poppy because I like the sentiment.

But the Tardis is awesome as is the Hipster Bigfoot pooping.

by Jesse
on 4/29/2011 @ 6:44pm

by NineInchNachos
on 4/29/2011 @ 6:57pm

by NineInchNachos

While I don't give a care about the royal wedding, I do enjoy BBC programing: Dr. Who, Being Human, Top Gear....all great stuff. :)

That said, I must cast my vote for my own entry, the TARDIS - even though I forgot to add "Police Box" along the top, and the sign on the door.

by Bjr
on 4/29/2011 @ 10:09pm
Tuff one tonight I went back and chalked more after words added a few things before my concrete truck showed up. Andrea awesome perspective and I got to vote for Stowe for use of the bush side wall.

I'm not afraid to say it: Dr Who is not a good tv show. Neither is Red Dwarf.

My vote is for Joel and his bottle of the elixir.

Congrats Andrea. Let's figure out how to get those comics to you. If you are downtown we can meet for coffee and do a hand off.
