Yeah, as Joel pointed out, this is episode TWO.

Episode one already happened, and is fully chronicled here:

And remember, chalkies, you can still vote daily for yours truly to win a $35,000 grant all day today and tomorrow until 5pm:

Has anyone spotted any cowboy charcoal in any shops lately?

by MsPoppy
on 4/7/2011 @ 11:04pm
Home Depot seems to have Cowboy Charcoal according to their website. Might be a good idea to call first rather than waste time if the site is wrong.

Dorky's Arcade, just across the street from all that fantastic chalk art, now has a brand new framed Frost Park chalk pinball poster on display. You should go check it and them out.

I vote for Stowe's Image Tacoma's Larry Frost Memorial Park Fountain actually working in downtown Tacoma!

by NineInchNachos
on 4/8/2011 @ 3:29pm
man we really need that fountain fixed. so nice for the kids on hot days. Also it is a memorial for a fallen policeman, I mean come on! Show some respect Tacoma City Council!

by jamesstoweart
on 4/8/2011 @ 3:31pm
I think I might chalk in there every week until they fix it. That is a rough surface in there too. Come on City Council... think of the raw broken chalk and more-than-likely urine covered hands of a local illustrator.

And the fallen policeman... of course.

by Erik
on 4/8/2011 @ 3:51pm
The broken fountain is a relatively easily fixable blight on one of the most highly visible and trafficed (sic) areas in downtown Tacoma which many interpret as disrespectful.

by Marty
on 4/8/2011 @ 3:51pm
I vote for Dawn

BTW. . . The fountain is not easily fixed, however I was told yesterday that repairs are on the way!!!

5 - 6 days of forcasted sunny weather are needed to apply the epoxy to fix the fountain. More repairs may be needed and will be determined at that time.

That's good news. Fixing the fountain is worth a Frost Park prize sponsorship right there.

Here is the Frost Park Fountain in it's (working) glory days with Dave L.'s floating Kalakala in the fountain at (1:48) via The Melon.

I am having incredible difficulty deciding. I only know that I can justify voting for myself this week. Nor can I justify amassing my followers to vote for me - especially as I've been busy amassing them for another contest entirely.

The rest of this post has been edited away because it was apparently a lie (I'd been told the deadline on said other contest had extended until later tonight, allowing more voting, but voting has closed). But I'd appreciate it if you'd all cross your fingers, pray, send good karma or whatever else have you that I make it to the next round of the YouTube NextUp contest and, hopefully, become one of the 25 winners. *hopeshopeshopeshopes*

Stowe's totally works in the pic! I see the pond now. Dude, and Jeremy's layed down some of his finest today. I'm torn between the flying fruit and the upside down flag, although I'm not sure what that's all about, but looks cool.Andrea's is pretty hot and Ariel's is straightforward. And of course, RR is dumping his usual load of stinky mucky-muck. Hmmmm...Hot Dogs, mmmm..

I like the message from Poppy but I find the artistic merit in the koi pond by Stowe superior so he gets my vote.

I'm sorry that a busy day kept me away this week.

Honorable mention to Poppy for choosing Unions as a topic.

Kudos to Stowe for feature of the park incorporation and for using black to draw water. I likey.

But, because Red Hot is the sponsor and I think it's always good to go with a sponsor pleasing theme...and because it looks awesome..

I vote Andrea.

Vote for Dawn!

Tram busted it out this week with I think he best piece yet! I love Joel's upside down money flag too. Shannancy's flying fruit are lovely and whimsical. Jeremy is growing up before our eyes and getting better with his chalk all the time. Some other great political work by RR and Poppy and I love Ariel's use of shadows. It's a close race between Stowe, Dawn, and Andrea T for me however...

I vote Dawn because her piece struck me nearly the entire time she was working on it but Stowe and Andrea were a really close second.

Great work everyone and great to see you all!

As always, great action shots, RxR!
I completely missed Stowe's entry at the park today! I just didn't look past the sidewalk. Wow - I've got to be one of the more close-minded artists....

After seeing the photos (Thanks Kevin and RxR!), I've decided to cast my VOTE for Stowe. The illusion looks great and it's a way clever use of space!

I totally vote for Tram! I really enjoy his piece a lot.

by Adam the Alien
on 4/8/2011 @ 11:30pm
It's very close, in a lot of ways, but as awesome/innovative/creative/just-plain-epic as many are, I'm gonna have to go with Dawn's as being the best of all of those. Incorporating the bush was a genius stroke...I've seen a lot of Frost Park tricks over the years (including fountain illusions), but I don't think I've ever seen anyone incorporate the surrounding plant life in quite that way...and certainly not so spectacularly.
