Aww man, I could totally use some vintage articles too strange to mention. I'm fresh out! Maybe I can explain this to my boss...

Get into a New Takhoman kinda mindset by listening to this VINTAGE MELON RADIO interview with Electric Elliot, Chris Van Vechten and THE NEW TAKHOMAN himself!

by Adam the Alien
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:45am
Hm...I had a neat Tacoma-themed idea inspired by the prize, but while it's vintage, it's not "before the mall". Might go with it anyway. Ponder, ponder, ponder...

by NineInchNachos
on 9/24/2010 @ 8:04am
I just made that theme up. Go with your gut ADAM THE ALIEN!

by Adam the Alien
on 9/24/2010 @ 9:59am
As it turns out, forcing myself to stick to the theme made me come up with a better idea. I'll use the other one another time.

Bummer that I won't be able to make it. I'm getting prepped for Jet City Comic Show, which will be tomorrow at the Seattle Center.

After the Chalk Off at Frost Park, consider walking over across 9th Street to the newly opened Dorky's video arcade with vintage games:

by NineInchNachos

How fun was that!? My cubicle is filled with VINTAGE PRIZE, I can confirm multiple VINTAGE FEDORA, multiple VINTAGE COWBOY BOOTS... all kinds of strange things. Will post pics later tonight!

amazing chalk art to boot.

Sorry I wasn't able to attend.
Damn night shift.

Anyway, I 100% enthusiastically note for Joel's black and white awesomeness.

Thanks for welcoming me and my Speakeasy crew. It was fun hanging with you guys today!

by Joel 413
on 9/24/2010 @ 2:34pm
Every once in a while I surprise myself and today is one of them. I vote for Joel today.

Thanks everyone, especially Angela and the Speakeasy crew, it was a great hour at the park.

by lpwrockguy
on 9/24/2010 @ 2:42pm
I vote for Brian. I moved to Tacoma from spokane in 1962 and we arrived at Union Station. Loved the building then and still think it's an awesome structure. Brian has captured the magic!

by aslanenlisted
on 9/24/2010 @ 2:47pm
I vote for Adam the Alien, because I want to be mentioned in more special thanks portions of videos that he might make six months to a year from now!

by FireFlyNexes
on 9/24/2010 @ 2:57pm
Man it is so hard to chose. I love all the work that was done today.

Andrea's work is just stunning so I shall Vote for her pre-mall, pre-Tacoma dinosaur fish.

Also Art work in Action.

I don't know why but it almost looks as if Adam was startled by his own reflection.

by martha_s
on 9/24/2010 @ 2:59pm
I vote for Adam the Alien.

by Lucki13
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:03pm
So I guess "pre" can be interprited in many ways for this theme. I do, however, vote for one of my favorite buildings in Tacoma (then and now)...Union Station (I vote Brian).

by Fraz
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:06pm
I vote for Adam

by Erik
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:11pm
Thanks for coming Angie. The music was great.

Some top entries today. Really.

I vote for RR Anderson.

by The Jinxmedic
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:26pm
Dang. Those are ALL good this time.

But, I have a soft spot for Union Station, and I love the rendering of the copper roof.

Therefore, "I vote for Brian".

by morgan
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:41pm
I too have a soft spot for the old Station - and Brian carried it off quite well: I vote for Brian.

Snagged a few photos of my faves and a couple more of my mosasaur. Unfortunately my boots were getting a lot of photo ops today.

by NineInchNachos

Joel your piece is killer!

by NineInchNachos
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:57pm
Andrea, your underwater lighting effects are stellar

by L.S.Erhardt
on 9/24/2010 @ 3:57pm
Seriously, why aren't more people voting for Joel?
This really is the best looking piece of chalk out there this week.

by Joel 413
on 9/24/2010 @ 4:10pm
Thorax! You may want to clarify your intentions as you 'note'-ed for me, and not voted.

by The Jinxmedic
on 9/24/2010 @ 4:15pm
'Cause Andrea and Brian used superb chalk rendering techniques that gave true depth to their designs.

by ALT
on 9/24/2010 @ 5:03pm
As much as I like how my dino turned out, I'm casting my VOTE for Adam. The reflected light from the rain-slick streets, the bright red cast by the neon street signs...the cross-armed alien with the cig. This piece screams downtown cool.

by debivans
on 9/24/2010 @ 5:33pm
I just drove by Frost and Brian was still working on his piece! Looks like he was adding a train. Way to art for arts sake!

by debivans
on 9/24/2010 @ 5:36pm
Is Poppy's a chalk portrait of Captain Picard as Dixon Hill in the holodeck?

by Joel 413
on 9/24/2010 @ 6:48pm
@debivans Yes. Yes it is. :-)

by NineInchNachos
on 9/24/2010 @ 7:10pm

I vote for Adam the Alien because he looks far too dashing in a fedora.

by MsPoppy
on 9/24/2010 @ 8:09pm
It is so difficult to choose! I love the detail and light on many of the pieces this week. Still I have to Vote for Joel's stylized noir awesomeness.

BTW: please forgive the iffy likeness of Sir Patrick Stewart. I'm not very good with humans but whatever inspiration demands I have to attempt.

by debivans
on 9/24/2010 @ 8:34pm
It's not iffy! I just jumped at a chance to spout dorky holodeck trivia. In fact I VOTE for Jean Luc ala Dixon. Make it so!

I absolutely vote for Joel and his Frost Noir piece this week. Really fantastic work! Brian did up one hell of a Union Station -- amazing detail! And I'm totally a fan of Poppy's Trek-tastic piece. Well done everyone and see you all next week!

by daubermaus
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:15pm
I vote for Brian because he was still working at 6:30 when we drove by.

by kiru13
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:19pm
I vote Adam the Alien because his art was fantastic and he needs those fedoras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by MarkMonlux
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:26pm
I vote for Andrea - because I wish I could draw underwater light half as well. Awesome.

Kudos to Joel for the stylistic design.
Kudos to Adam for great layout and even better color.
And I loved Picard with a Machine Gun!

by Bjr
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:30pm
l liked all the pieces , got done around 7ish tonight Andreas was awesome Adams was cool Joel was the was the best b/w I Chalked off the wall right up to it 16 ft on to the side walk I love that wall my biggest piece so far. so I vote for Joel Chalk on chalkers cant wait for next Friday . Oh yah my piece took place around 1911 its part of the train .

by Bjr
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:44pm
I had to stop because my kids got hungry and my train tracks had to stop before joel`s piece .

by InPDX
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:45pm
I vote for Joel!!

on 9/24/2010 @ 10:51pm
I hope someone can document Brian's work.

by luciddude
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:53pm
Excellent work, everyone!

I vote for Joel.

His expert use of proportion and stylistic elements are inspiring. With such a large volume of charcoal applied, I wouldn’t be surprised if a ghostly afterimage remains after rainfall!

Great job, Joel!

by crockawaddy
on 9/24/2010 @ 10:53pm
Wow. Excellent chalking today by everyone! I loved Joel's shady character. I remember the Union Station when it was a train station and the earthquake that damaged it. But, I also love the Alien's noir attitude and the homage to the Roxy.

I vote Adam the Alien (hopefully he get's a new fedora out of the deal). .

by reeciebird
on 9/24/2010 @ 11:02pm
Adam, it's so cool to see how your chalking has improved and grown over the last couple of years. Standout Alien! But I vote for Joel. I think you're really starting to find your style, honey.

by morgan
on 9/24/2010 @ 11:16pm
Whoa! You've got to see the final version of Brian's Union Station! He just stopped by with cell phone pics. Check it out tomorrow!

by Bjr
on 9/24/2010 @ 11:20pm
Just for the chalk of it , I had a not so sweet little old lady walk past the chalk and she said to my boys and I . " It looks like you guys are doing a good job of makeing the city look like crap even more .'' So I said thanks have a nice day . The boys thought that she was mean . But to finish the night lots of good complements and photos .

by Adam the Alien
on 9/25/2010 @ 12:01am
I vote for Joel. Depending on the clock, I'm still on time.

Edit: According to FeedTacoma's clock, I'm not. According to mine, I am.

by Joel 413
on 9/25/2010 @ 12:06am
Since it's 12:01 and Adam's vote is late, I give you the results.

Adam: 9
Joel: 7 (9)
Brian: 5
Andrea: 3
Poppy: 2
RR: 1

To go into the whole voting technicalityness of it all Had Adam gotten his vote in on time it would have been 9-to-9 and Adam would have won the tie breaker because Thorax Said "Anyway, I 100% enthusiastically note for Joel's black and white awesomeness." which isn't really a vote which is why I gave myself 7.

Anyway Adam, maybe we can shop together and wheel and deal on who gets the pick of the litter before we turn it over to Brian!

by Adam the Alien
on 9/25/2010 @ 12:11am
Sounds good to me. I confess, I only waited until the last minute because I thought you'd sweep ahead of me, and I'd need every vote I could get to get second over Brian. :-D

by NineInchNachos
on 9/25/2010 @ 12:59am
did you get pictures Brian??

by NineInchNachos
on 9/25/2010 @ 1:20am

That's really funny about the EVIL little old lady.
What a sourpuss!

by FireFlyNexes
on 9/25/2010 @ 2:13am
well I don't know about anyone else but I would love for Brian to crap all over Tacoma :P

by KevinFreitas
on 9/25/2010 @ 8:18am
If that's how Brian craps he's welcome to crap on any blank wall in town as far as I'm concerned. At any rate, congrats Adam and Joel on a well fought and won vintage chalk battle royale!

by Bjr
on 9/25/2010 @ 11:10am
Thats some funny crap there I`ll stick to chalking the wall and sidewalks. Yes I got pics their stuck on my phone going to verizon after another cup of coffee here.

by ALT
on 9/25/2010 @ 3:50pm
Yeah! Smear that crap on the walls like a quintessential crazy artist, Brian!

Congrats on the win, Adam! I must say Joel, the only reason you two aren't tied is because of technicalities. I'd say a little haggling over the items would be fair. :)

just wrapping up old business.. . Tomorrows theme TBD!

by NineInchNachos
on 9/30/2010 @ 2:13pm
ok not so much TBD, but I didn't want to get the two chalk episodes entangled..

I'm writing on behalf of Linda Danforth about TAP's sponsorship of
Friday's chalk-off. What we'd like to offer as a prize is a membership
at TAP and a solo show at TAP, arranged for the month of mutual
convenience to both the winner and the curator.

Since Halloween is just around the corner (hurray!), our suggestion
for the theme is dead artists as ghosts.
