Stadium District History Talk & Book Signing

Join us as we celebrate the release of the book 'Tacoma's Stadium District' by Joy Keniston-Longrie, Kelsey Longrie, and Amberose Longrie. The book chronicles the development of the neighborhood from old-growth forests to the Stadium District we know today. Starting with the 1873 telegram from Northern Pacific Railroad commissioners stating, "We have located terminus on Commencement Bay," the Stadium District became a place that railroad tycoons, timber barons, industrial leaders, and everyday people built their homes and raised their families. The magnificent Stadium Bowl anchors the neighborhood as an important gathering place and the steep spires of Stadium High School have inspired thousands of Tacomans for more than a century.

Joy Keniston-Longrie's family arrived in Tacoma in 1884 and includes five generations of Stadium High School graduates spanning more than 100 years, including co-authors Kelsey & Amberose Longrie (Stadium High classes of 2010 and 2014, respectively). Joy will be talking about the process of researching and selecting photographs for the book, as well as signing copies.
