LAST WEEK'S GREATEST ILLUSTRATOR IN THE UNIVERSE:

- RR Anderson (won a performance Tacoma Atheists T shirt )

Just drove by Frost Park, saw someone has already chalked! It's a knife or sword with a "R" on the hilt. The blade of the knife stuck into a brick road. Or was this from last week and I completely missed it?

I want to thank everyone who has voted for me so far. I'd had the idea of a iron on the sidewalk for a while, but when I heard the theme was going to be "Greening the City" this modified image popped right into my head. I do like Adams clones on the dome, chalk hawk is funny, and RR's Allen with the stirrups has me inspired, or perspiring. But, since I'm very happy with how Green Iron came out, I will...

cast my Vote for Monlux!

Ooh! I so vote Adam The Alien! The TAGRO-fed green roof on the T-dome? Doesn't get much more greening of Tacoma than that ...

by MsPoppy
on 7/16/2010 @ 3:43pm
to NineInchNachos....Heaven's no! I never condone vigilante stupidity.

It's hard to see the bottom steps but it starts with baby prints with wild flowers and they grown and change every few steps eventually turning to look back over it's own path.

But I have to vote for Adam, with the uniquely Tacoma flavor... or was it an aroma....

@RR: Yikes.

I vote for Adam the Alien.

I VOTE for Monlux. When I saw it on the sidewalk it didn't do much for me. But for some reason the photo really made it pop.

I do dig my chalk hawk. It turned out the way I envisioned it. Nice when that happens.

I like RR's continuation of his interactive "insert foot" series.

Still early, but I suspect some alien vote cloning is happening.

Actually, so far I've only rallied Facebook and Twitter. I save the YouTube fanbase for such things as pirate gold...but don't tempt me. I do loves me some Harmon. It used to be my treat to myself after every Frost Park when I had two jobs to support such expenditures. :-)

Adam's work was pretty charming but Brian went big with his alt-sidewalk reality piece. Wowza! Two of 'em if you count his sword in the brick work done in the off-hours. Kendra and Poppy's pieces were beautiful and Slam did a fine job (welcome!). That's probably the floweriest piece I've seen Monlux do to date and I'm totally digging RR's interactive feet feats. I'm voting for Debivans Chalk Hawk for it's edge and crisp originality. Damn fine work chalkers!

by NineInchNachos
on 7/16/2010 @ 10:09pm
thank kevin, somebody gave Debivans some of that day-glow chalk... boy the colors really pop!

by ALT
on 7/16/2010 @ 11:18pm
This is really tough - I love Brian's entries and Mark's green iron is very slick. But, I have to cast my VOTE for RxR. His interactive optical illusion is even more clever than last week's entry (I.M.H.O)

by Earthdaughter
on 7/16/2010 @ 11:33pm
Hey, did anyone get a picture of our birthday cake? (Oh, just found Kevin's photo. Thanks, KF!) It actually WAS an entry not just a celebration of Jim's and my birthday week.

It's hard to resist falling for the Alien's charm and obvious need of good food, but I'm really going to go on my reaction to the art work itself.

Very hard as usual. Brian's work is awesome (and very scary!). Monlux's Green Iron is clever and uplifting (if I understand it). Poppy's footprints through life is thought-provoking. Adam has a clever solution to greening the city - call in the Aliens. Tram's character planting something is sweet. Thorax's tribute to the Luzon, though, totally tugged at my heart strings. Nature trying to keep a toe-hold in the city and people tearing it down.

Green building (T O'T) gets my vote.

And sorry that Jeff's Ice Cream truck was undergoing repairs so couldn't make an appearance. Not exactly ice cream weather as it turned out though. Maybe later in the summer.

Thanks everyone for the best wishes and welcome, Max, to a great week for birthdays!

I went through and did the following tally and will openly accept any corrections. (While WildCelticRose did not say Vote in her posting I think her intent was to cast one for Adam was clear).

Adam - 17
Monlux - 11
RR - 3
Brian - 2
Debivans - 2
Kendra - 2
Thorax - 2
Poppy - 1

Way to go Adam for being green!

It's certainly none of my business how the results of these contests are decided. However, it would be less prejudicial if the photos would have numbers rather than names attached. Its the creation which is being evaluated, not the creator.

by Earthdaughter
on 7/18/2010 @ 6:18pm
Fredo - while I agree with your intention (and share it!), it is so easy to work around it ("vote for me. I'm #4.") that I'm not sure it would solve the "problem" of personality voting. There does, however, seem to be a bit of "stuffing the ballot box" occurring. I think the only way to prevent that would be to stop awarding prizes and just have the prestige of having won be enough. Not suggesting we do that, but when there is a tangible prize, there is an added incentive.

That all being said, congratulations, Adam. How do you want to get your gift certificate? I could just leave it at the Harmon with your name on it, or we could meet up and I can give it to you. Or bring it on Friday. Let me know.

by NineInchNachos
on 7/18/2010 @ 10:01pm
well, secretly my original intent with direct-democracy online chalk voting was as a recruitment tool to get folks to sign up and start using feedtacoma.com.

Adam the Alien has a tremendous amount of devoted fans which translate into a mighty political machine.

Welcome to the real-time, real-life world of art! :)

by NineInchNachos
on 7/18/2010 @ 10:08pm
I look forward to the day when like Dali, Chihuly and Kinkade; Adam the Alien, won't even have to create his own artwork anymore! "Adam the Alien" will just be a brand. I can see the angry feed comments now: "ADAM THE ALIEN SOLD OUT, MAN!"

But now we're moving into the school of performance/conceptual 'tacoma art museum' art. And that is another story.

by NineInchNachos
on 7/18/2010 @ 10:11pm
or maybe Adam the Alien is like Tim Eyman?

like discovering a new way to make a living?
