Distinguished Writer Series

and Open Mic

This monthly event features a Distinguished Writer and an Open Mic for poets. This month features Carolyne Wright. Open Mic sign-up is at 6:30 pm. Admission is free. The event occurs monthly the second Friday of every month at King's Books. Sponsored by the Puget Sound Poetry Connection and the Tacoma Arts Commission.

Carolyne Wright has published eight books or chapbooks of poetry, four volumes of translations from Spanish and Bengali, and a collection of essays. Her latest collection is A Change of Maps. Her work has won the 2007 Independent Book Publishers Bronze Award for Poetry, the Blue Lynx Prize, the American Book Award. The title poem of her upcoming work, This Dream the World: New and Selected Poems, was selected for The Best American Poetry 2009 and won a 2009 Pushcart Prize. Wright moved back to her native Seattle in 2005, where she is on the faculty of the Northwest Institute of Literary Artsí Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA Program, and (for 2009-2010) Mount Olive College in North Carolina.
