Craft Night: Coptic Binding!

Tacoma Is For Lovers presents Craft Night! Each month features an artist introducing a new craft. The first 1 hours will be devoted to learning the necessary techniques. After which, people can continue working on the activity or work on other projects. This month features Jessica Spring teaching Coptic bookbinding techniques! Coptic binding is characterized by book sections stitched together in a chain across the binding and attached to the cover. This method is prized as it allows books to lay flat and has a variety of uses, from artist books to scrapbooks. The $20 fee covers materials (paper, needles, string), plus a small donation to TIFL and King's Books. Please pre-register with sweet pea so that we know how many materials to bring!

Jessica Spring, of Springtide Press in Tacoma, designs, prints, and binds unique artist books, broadsides and ephemera incorporating handmade paper and letterpress printing. Small finely-crafted editions consider historical topics and popular culture with a twist. Jessica teaches book arts at Pacific Lutheran University.

Tacoma Is For Lovers is a community-based organization which annually produces an Artist Craft Fair which promotes the visibility of local art.
