Rainy day out there for late May. Who will it keep away and who will the hearty ones be to chalk or watch? Let the record show, I'll be among the latter.

For those who are brave enough to chalk today: vertical surfaces are pretty much immune to rain.

Aw! It's not that bad!

I admire all of you! I am a total weather sissy.

That being said (from the comfort of my office), I vote for Thorax.

I was in Olympia on an appointment. I swear it's not because I'm afraid of rain.

I vote for Thorax.

You are all studly chalk artists and have my immense respect and admiration for doing this event today!

I vote for Andrea's Cheshire Grin. It's very creepy, and gives an illusion of depth- therefore, it's a winner in my book.

Kudos to everyone who came out into the rain to participate. I prefer drawing on the ground, but only the walls were workable this week. And they were pretty soaked too.

I loaded my photos, showing both art and the folks who turned up, onto my flckr account. You can see them by clicking on this link: bit.ly/9fn0FU

Should I win second place this week, I will turn the second place trophy of the Princess Leia bobblehead over to Adam the Alien. This because it was only be the narrowest of technicalities that I honestly won it away from him, and he has been coveting the slave girl ever since.

Should "My Cat Sydney" be the crowd favorite I will donate a copy of "The Comic Critic Presents Seldom Seen Films" to the next charity give-away that John Munn of Comic Book Ink does on Thursday evenings before the midnight showing at the Lakewood 16 Movie Theater.

That said, my vote is for Thorax and his homemade chalk.

I voted for Thorax the last two times and it didn't do any good. Home made chalk? That's uber-cool. (or "uber-kuhl", I suppose.) Still, that grin is trult frightening and therefore, it is deserving of my vote.

Thorax had home made chalk? That's moxie. I vote for him.

I vote for Thorax. Very cool. Also, I meant to vote for him last week with the space thing and forgot too.

Mark's made me laugh because I've owned cats like that.

Yup, home-made chalk. I made white (turned out best), green, blue, red, yellow, orange and purple. I can (in theory) make any color you like.

It's simple, but take a while to dry (about 2 weeks). It's essentially water, plaster of paris and powder tempera paint. You have to mix the plaster to water at a volume ratio of 1:0.9 to get good results. Otherwise, you make a brick.
See Kevin's pic:

I can share the recipe and have a whole topic about it, if anyone is interested.
Also, for a low price (to cover the materials), I'll be happy to sell some sticks in any color you like.

I vote for Andrea's grin.

How much for a stick of white Thorax? Should start selling it on the feed store.

I vote for Andrea.

but throax is kicking ass with his entry. reminds me of Carl Sagan.

(the strange pitting and voids in the concrete added to the creepiness in her chalk teeth. )

Today was a wierd chalk off. I saw all kinds of crazy stuff... other than a bunch of people drawing with chalk in the rain. Ready? Here we go for some of the "other" sights this week. Click on any pic to see it bigger.

RIP I-91 by unknown

People standing around and getting wet. And taking pictures. There was a 1.2:1 ratio of cameras to chalkers this week

What do the rules say?

Paparazzi! And wait... is that a yacht I see sailing down Pac Ave? Guess it's rained more this month than I thought...

Jeff the muppet man!

Two special guests: Paul the muppet and the Luzon Brick.

And a final one, just for Mark:

My own orange terrors. Onslow (L) and Cous Cous (R).

Now, all that being said, I vote for myself because not only is it what I do, but also because I like dandelions.
Also, @ Mark: should I win, could I substitute Leia for the book? I already have an autographed copy.

@ RR: considering the cost of the plaster (no paint in the white, obviously), 75 cents should cover my expenses for a stick of white.
Putting it in the feed store is a great idea! I'll talk to Kevin about it... Call it Frost Park Chalk?

Well done chalk masters! As for the weather, we've seen worse. But their brand of chalk art is always on par. Mark's kitty Sydney makes me laugh only because it's the only time I've seen the effects of something getting under Mark's skin. :D RR's spirit capture is as solid as ever and was a huge fan of the neon green outline to help things pop! Thorax's dandelions nearly snagged my vote for their simplicity but still depth but I vote Andrea this week for her impromptu demonic Cheshire grin piece.

Great work and it was wonderful to see so many people brave the elements to take it all in. Cheers!

Wow, the diehard chalkies were out today. Or is it chalkers? Chalk stalkers. Frosties? Is there an official term?

I see the wall's where it's at when it's wet. Was in the middle of moving today anyways. Blah. Wet moving.

My VOTE goes to Andrea's teeth. Nice work.

Andrea - Let me know the title of one of your favorites movies and I will draw a related sketch in the book. My plan is to drop it off the prizes at next week's event.
