Carlos Martinez Reading


Martinez will be reading poetry from his three Finishing Line Press chapbooks - The Raw Silk of Night; Meanwhile, Back in Kansas; and Cold Music - as well as some new and not-so-new poems. The audience will be invited to participate in a Q & A session. There will be copies of the chapbooks available for purchase.

Carlos Martinez teaches creative writing and literature at WWU. He is a 2001 graduate of the Antioch University, LA, MFA in Creative Writing Program. His poetry has appeared in periodicals such as Pontoon, Cranky, Palabra, Crab Creek Review and Poet Lore. In 2005 he was a Jack Straw Writing Fellow, and in both 2004 and 2006 he was a featured reader at the Skagit River Poetry Festival. Martinez has also been the featured reader at several local venues including Tacoma’s Distinguished Writers Series. This former New Yorker says, “I consider myself to be, first and foremost, a story teller.”
