Incident Date: 4/17/2012Issuing Officer: Battalion Chief Dale Vaughn and Joe MeineckeIncident Location: 4502 South Steel StreetIncident Type: Commercial Structure FireNarrative: At 9:52 a.m. ten companies of Tacoma Firefighters (five engines, two ladders, two medic companies and command staff) responded to a reported fire at the Macy's store at the Tacoma Mall. First arriving companies found fire showing from the main floor escalator of the large retail store. Crews worked quickly to evacuate the store, dismantle a portion of the escalator to extinguish the fire in the mechanical area of the unit and the fire that had extended to the second floor escalator well, and ventilated the smoke from the building.
